Building on the complex history of public monuments in Richmond, the Valentine Museum has curated an exhibition on their context and relevance. The museum is a space for discussion about the uncomfortable elements of the past and looks at who and what has been commemorated in Richmond, from when Christopher Newport first planted a cross to the present day statues on Monument Avenue.
